Not all baskets are created equal...
Plus the story of my life-size Hugh Grant cardboard cut-out; what I've been wearing, buying, reading, watching; tried-and-tested holiday hack you never knew you needed; Sunday Style preview...
By the time you read this, I will be in Tuscany with my family. Just. In fact, I am finishing off today’s post al fresco, from a little café on the square where we stay (it’s all very Call Me By Your Name…). I was supposed to arrive yesterday, but my flight (thanks BA) was cancelled at the gate, but I won’t bore you with the details. I’m here now.
One of the first things I do when I am on holiday is ditch my handbag for a basket. Actually before I arrive - this raffia tote was my carry-on and will double-up as a handy chuck-it-all-in bag while we’re here. Don’t overload it though (like I did), as the thin leather straps, plus heavy load look super-chic, but equalled sore shoulders in transit. I also packed this one (for day trips) and this one (for evening). I just love how this simple accessory switch-up instantly makes a distinction from life at home (although to be fair, I use baskets/raffia bags, including those two often during the summer months at home!). Baskets and flat sandals (I never, ever pack a single pair of heels for my summer holiday) are my holiday must-haves. Hedgehog does some of my favourite classic ‘market style’ basket bags (in various sizes), and I have been buying from them for years now. You cannot beat a classic market style basket - always chic, always understated, always stylish. Etsy also always has a good selection. And of course, always look out for them in local markets when you’re actually on holiday.
